Walking Bass and Chords on Rhythm Changes

0 ratings

If you want to start playing walking bass and chords alá Joe Pass, look no further! In this study, you'll learn how to play walking bass lines with chords using rhythm changes as a framework.

You'll learn how to connect from one chord to the next with simple but effective basslines with crisp chordal accompaniment in between. By the end of the study, you'll have the foundation to work out walking bass and chords on your favorite standards.

The lesson starts with basic shell voicings before adding passing tones and syncopation to get you up and running. This builds up to the first example chorus, which uses ideas previously shown to give you a swingin chorus to practice and work up to tempo.

The second example chorus take another step, adding more colorful chords and inversions to offer a more robust and challenging example.

The video includes a brief breakdown of how this all works before going into the examples. You can view and download the video on Gumroad, or you can check out the full video on YouTube.

To quote the great Ron Burgundy, ". . . let's take the bassline for a walk!".
